Finally with the solidarity of around 33000 wildlife lovers, Government has relented and agreed to re- route the obnoxious proposed highway on kaccha Kandi road through Corbett to outside the periphery of Corbett park.

This has not only saved wildlife but huge destruction of biodiversity, trees and many lives dependent on forests. This would also lesson the compounding ill-effect of surging climate change due to avoidance of reduction of forest area.

Thanks to the entire wildlife lovers community apart from sensible and competent people in MoEFCC, NTCA, NBW and others who indirectly and indirectly supported this movement. Wildlife Institute of India though could not play its designated role and was seen clearly under pressure of those who were hell-bound to construct this highway.

Now challenge is to construct new highway sustainably with minimum loss of trees and creating adequate provisions for movement of wildlife animals which cross to UP forest occasionally.

A big day for Wildlife of Corbett indeed.
