Today is the historic day for wildlife and biodiversity of Corbett park as National Green Tribunal (NGT) in its landmark judgement today ordered the Uttarakhand government, India to stop the process of construction of Kandi road through core of Corbett park and construct the road as per the 'alignment' earlier approved by Supreme Court in 2005. This effectively means a new lease of life for hundred of tigers & other wildlife animals, biodiversity and vegetation of Corbett park.
This was a long battle which has started in March' 2017 when New Uttarakhand Government announced construction of Kandi road right through core area of Corbett without taking into consideration its huge impact on wild life and biodiversity. It went ahead with several steps taken including signing MOU with M/s National Building Construction Company (NBCC) through Wildlife Institute of India (WII), a very unusual step indeed.
Finally justice prevailed. Thanks for thousands of supporters who signed this petition and raised their voices directly or indirectly on behalf of these mute animals. Your support had been instrumental to steer the opinion of decision makers to the just cause of Corbett park. Thanks to Ministry of Environment & Climate Change (MoEFCC), National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) and National Board for Wildlife (NBW) categorically stating that the project will harm the wildlife and ecology of the CTR.
Cheers...
