I strongly condemn the arrest of four activists including Mr.Thirumurugan Gandhi, coordinator of May17 movement under “The Goondas Act” . Every year at the Marina beach, the remembrance for the killing of Eelam Tamils have been permitted and conducted peacefully. The very same Chennai metropolitan police gave required protection to the event. It is distressing to note that the former chief minister Mr. Panneerselvam of ADMK party and also the current chief minister Mr.Palanisamy is purportedly trying to portray marina beach as a violent space to the foreigners and the domestic tourists. They are also obstructing the peaceful gathering of the public in the beach. By denying permission to the peaceful remembrance event and by using ‘’The Goondas Act”, the government is stifling free speech in the country. Use of police force against an event where public expresses in a democratic way is a cruel abuse of power. It is shocking to note that the ADMK government is regularly imposing emergency in the beach. In addition to all this , the government have installed police units throughout the beach is a good example of their strange governmental administrative practice. The ADMK government is acting as the “Benami government” of the ruling BJP regime, it also enforces undeclared emergency in the beach regularly. The voice of the freedom has been trampled by the government. Narendra Modi , On a recent visit to the island of Srilanka did not release any statements regarding the political solution to the Eelam Tamils nor the does Mr.Palanisamy and his ministers, and now they are cracking using “The Goondas Act “ even on the remembrance event for the killed during the war. It is evident that the chief minister, his ministers and even the police officers are under the control of the ruling bjp regime. The control exerciseced by the BJP government on the Tamilnadu state government is completely antithetical to the principles of federalism. So I request the tamilnadu chief minister to drop the charges against the four activist including Mr. Thirumurugan Gandhi immediately. Use of brute police force against peaceful gathering and protests is against the fundamental rights guaranteed in the constitution. I also warn that hereby the government should stop using police force as their stooges .
