Thanks to the Competition Commission of India for hearing our complaint against the Taxi monopoly in Goa and for discussing issue with various stakeholders. Also thanks to CCI for issuing summons to the Tourist Taxis Association. The fundamental rights of Goans have always been denied. Although Goa is part of India the former CM Mr. Digambar Kamatmat and Mr. Churchill Alemao along with MLA Mr. Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco have turned Goa into a country like Mexico with their support for Mafia gangs that too in the name of Goykarponn. There are some  incidents where the taxi goons have dragged out tourists from GoaMiles taxis. We have great expectations from our new CM Dr. Dr. Pramod Sawant, thanks to the new CM for not bowing down to the taxi mafia and giving them a strict warning and also providing security to GoaMiles which is the first taxi app in Goa.

The Government has waited for more than a year in good faith, it's time to add new taxis to GoaMiles (GM), keeping the ultimate objective of app based taxis with aggregators. This will provide employment to local drivers with better attitude and better service to people. The existing taxi drivers support taxi union and have exploitative culture, they won't join GM even with the lucrative fares offered under govt protection. If these 30,000 taxi drivers do join GM, they will always threaten GM/Government and tourism will always be at ransom. These new GM drivers can later also work for Ola Uber in future which will force these companies GM, OLA, UBER to provide competitive contracts to the taxi drivers. We have been hearing about new taxi enrollments for more than a year and should start right away so people are not fooled by empty promises to threaten the goons. The local Goans should be able to take loans just like it is done in other states for joining Ola Uber.

Old taxi models of b/y taxi and tourist taxi are obsolete and are misused because taxi license owners have hired drivers who are from outside the state. Some of these licensed taxi owners have Jagaurs, Mercedes. Some are Government officers, Police, Politicians and some may have even moved abroad to London, having taxi fleet in Goa. This has created a Taxi Mafia monster that has been controlling the Government for many years and have been responsible for the tourism doom, the only business Goa can depend on. Also some taxi owners may not be living and their licenses still misused by others. The Government should not allow existing taxi license owners to hire drivers. If the taxi license owner is not driving the taxi, the ownership should be transferred to the taxi driver if they meet the local Goan criteria (similar to the land to tiller act) or if owner cannot drive, the ownership should be cancelled. The subsidy may be better utilized for providing loans/incentives to change ownership to deserving Goans. Yellow/black taxis and tourist taxis are obsolete models introduced before the app based taxis and keep the taxi asset and driver idle. We request CM to routinely conduct impartial survey from the local people of Goa every month about GoaMiles about the affordability and day to day use. GM does not understand the taxi business as their pricing includes return fares. If you use the taxi to return to the same point the return fare is charged twice when it should be zero and should be abolished. Also other reason why they don't understand the taxi business - the distance for min fare should be reduced so that GM taxi is more affordable within the city where people can use taxi for less than 4kms. Also the Key Performance Indicator - number of times the GM app couldn't provide a taxi to public and the complaints should be available to govt/public and should be monitored by the Government. GM should be asked to provide Rs50 (or points) credit every time app based taxi wasn't available to public. Also Govt should check how much of the public money is prepaid to GM.

When every business is affected due to technology and competition, what makes taxi business so special ? Due to lack of mobility Goa may not be preferred for other business opportunities besides Tourism.
