Goa Government is sending different messages everyday like they did in April after we filed the online petition.
First Transport Minister Sudin Dhavalikar tried to fool the people with wrong premise that Ola/Uber are in losses. After we clarified his bluff, he said - "Govt is putting foot down - that Manohar Parrikar has already decided on taxi matter", but Parrikar gave promise in Goa Assembly to meet all stakeholders, how could he decide based on some obsolete "court case" filed by TTAG 2 years ago ? Goans are not tourists in their own state and even if this decision is for Tourists, its a wrong decision based on today's taxi solution. Even asking taxi drivers to install meters is a foolish decision as the taxi mafia will have even more reasons to ban any further improvement in taxi services and that would cripple the state's core business forever.
Once meters are installed, the Government and people will be at the mercy of Taxi Association who can ask taxi drivers to turn off the meters with a single message any time and on some flimsy grounds. The only way to control their old habit of fleecing customers under protection of the Taxi Association is by introducing open competition.
After we brought above issues to the attention of the Government (see video - https://youtu.be/kHCajxhruGU ), there is a statement made by GTDC Chairman Nilesh Cabral that GTDC has decided to introduce app based taxi. Once again Goans are not tourists in their own state. GTDC has track record of too many failures in the past. Its All women taxi service flopped as it was stopped by the taxi mafia on flimsy grounds, same will happen with app based taxi. GTDC has has failed with amphibious buses and the seaplanes and its surprising the same people are running the show for some more guaranteed failures.
As regards complexity of App based taxis, we posted a detailed update on the petition with below on 3rd June, and Government already confirmed it has no budget, this is an attempt to waste public funds for sake of some greedy people who want to keep looting the public and tourists. Video of Goan Taxi app - https://youtu.be/pWLtc0tzmSo
In the month of April same thing happened as per news articles below, first on 28th Apr GTDC Chairman says "GTDC will develop own Taxi app", on 30th Apr the transport minister Sudin Dhavlikar says "We will install digital taxi meters", on 3rd May Michael Lobo "Asked Taxi drivers to develop their own app". On 27 May the Taxi owners "Reject the idea of developing any taxi app".
As you can see the difference in opinion of MLA's requires leadership that Manohar Parrikar should provide but he is totally silent. During the court case of 12 Jun 2017 the Goa Government said it needs time to study the matter completely and got the case postponed by 4 months. The Parrikar Government has done nothing in the last 4 months and has refused to acknowledge the petition from public interests.
We have made many attempts to get appointment with Manohar Parrikar, sent to manoharparrikar@yahoo.co.in but he is simply not responding, instead messages are being sent through proxies that he cannot handle the taxi mafia. Is this really the ex-Defense Minister people voted for ? It would be nice if Goan Media which has done lot of good work and should step in at this juncture arranges open debate on the topic with Manohar Parrikar.
