Rohan Khaute says that Goans abroad shouldn't criticize the government. As this petition was started by Goan currently staying abroad (and is Overseas Citizen) of course with dedicated support from team in Goa, its necessary to provide our viewpoint: 1. For Taxi revolution Goan people have expressed their opinion on social media but the Government is refusing to discuss the issue. When we submitted the petition, Manohar Parrikar was in Office but refused to meet our team in April and has since then eluded to discussion or debate on the topic. Even Parrikar played his game - we asked that any communication be sent to our given address but instead Parrikar's office sent it to Mahesh Sardesai, Campal Goa and as expected letter was returned back after several days. Even in the Goa assembly autocratic statement from Sudin Dhavalikar that we will not allow Ola/Ober shows his ignorance. After eluding to the petition, and related public opinion, now Parrikar has opened website for public grievances after completely ignoring debate in social media, what a joke ? 2. Rohanbab Ola/Uber has to be allowed so that the youth of Goa who are into unemployment and drug abuse get jobs at least in Tourism. Government is ignorant in managing the Tourism business, which is the only business Goa can excel, but other states are intelligently competing for their share and Goa is disappearing from the preferred list. People are forced to take jobs outside the state or abroad. Some are genuinely interested in coming back but majority of them settle their with families outside, once kids have their roots in those places they will never return back to Goa. Most people are forced to work outside Goa due to incompetence of Government. Tourism is low hanging fruit completely ignored as against the IT Startups which has global competition as businesses move to Cloud computing. 3. Again Taxi is the vehicle for drug lords and prostitution pimps. The taxi association pimps have assigned taxi rivers of their own choice to hotels. This is the very foundation that needs to be dismantled for a better future so people stop migrating to other places. The police are clueless as per statement by DIG Vimal Gupta - URL below. If Ola/Uber is allowed it helps control the tourism related drug and prostitution menace. 4. Taxi drivers and their association pimps have made their own rules in hotels, slashing tires of Tourists and this has been accepted as law, the government has turned a blind eye and the Hotel lobby is helpless in satisfying their clients. 5. There was some uprising in the past to start Ola/Uber but the Taxi goons caused damage to property and the corrupt BJP government supported the Taxi goons suppressing the agitation. Even for the current petition there have been open threats, and the government is completely silent. Govt has allowed this taxi monster to grow, even when we had special petition update suggesting on measures to control monster, nothing has been done, instead taxis have been allowed to have their way running without speed Governors. 6. Goa government is known to use its enforcement machinery to appease people who are whistle blowers and when somebody expresses their opinion they are being deal with severely on other fronts so that the main issue is forgotten. Goa has a unique problem that people are related several times over and that brings in another dimension to this mess. Instead of being related helping the state, these "shameless" elected representatives are known to only fill their pockets. The corrupt brother in law of Parsekar was reinstated and action was taken against the Anti Corruption Bureau official. 8. There are some people will not say anything against govt because they may have to meet them for some "work". Anything said against can be grudgingly used against you. The system should not have these weaknesses. 9. India inherited democracy from the British and passed on to Goa. While most of the democratic governments across the world have remained democratic, the politicians in Goa have actually turned democracy into a mess with dictatorship. Canada ranks high in democratic index ((not USA) and most population is generally aware of their rights and cannot be taken for a ride, its necessary to have opinion from Goans living in these countries as Goans have taken their predicament for granted. In Canada the system works for e.g. contractors for public works have to maintain quality if they want to survive. If they don’t deliver for example roads with potholes, the govt has the right to get it fixed and recover the expense from the assets of the contractor. In Goa the politicians are hand in hand with the contractors and Casino owners so where is the question of any penalty ? No action on Curchorem potholes. Parrikar has made no statement of liability about deadline to Lucky 7. They should have given final ultimatum deadline to Gopal Kanda and frozen his assets, then hire foreign agencies to remove/scrap ship and recover cost from ship owner. But the politicians are hand in hand with these people and want to just fill their pockets. Although notices have been sent now we have yet to see a concrete plan, the story is changing high tide after high tide. 10. Biggest blow to democracy is the recent precedent set with selfish maneuvering. Those who were corrupt have been purified and blessed overnight to become powerful rulers, forget the party agenda and loyalty. This makes further mockery of democracy. A formidable opponent has been purchased at the last minute so there is virtually no opposition. Also the opponent is cleared of his criminal charges and turned into the likes of the rulers for the selfishness of group of politicians.
