Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told us that decision on Taxi revolution will be taken mid June and we have been patiently waiting for response from him. So far there is no word from him either on Taxi and the MLA's are afraid to talk about taxi. There is also no plan or vision on Transportation in the common minimum program announced in June 2017.
Goa is now down to 9th preferred destination for foreign tourists after Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, West Bengal, Gujarat & Rajasthan. Goa does not figure in the top 10 for domestic tourists. This is in spite of the fact that India's Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index moved up from 40th in 2013 to 24th place in 2016. Andhra Pradesh itself is showing 20% growth in Tourists.
Thanks to the Calangute MLA supporting Taxi union and Goons, BJP Government for over 5 years, Goa is really doomed after competition and is destined to become 20th preferred destination. Our MLA's are busy filling their pockets and are afraid of talking about taxi while the other states are planning roadshows to attract the tourists. When anyone visits a place they attribute their experiences to the place and people. From what we provide, Goans will be known in the world as lazy, complacent, cowards who are ruled by Goons, unless we fight back and provide something comparable to other places.
There is a major initiative across the border to develop Sindhudurg coastline into high end tourist destination for wealthy Indian and foreigners with Chippi airport turned into expat heaven even though Mopa airport is located very close to border. Goa's complacence will gives them a chance to flourish and make it impossible to compete. Andhra Pradesh Tourism development Corp has partnered with Ola for boosting tourism and creating 25000 jobs. Ola also has partnered with state governments in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Orissa, Rajasthan and Maharashtra for skilling of people and other states. Ola has also partnered with Mahendra for pollution free electric vehicles of the future.
Goan Tourists are charged hefty amounts like 37 pounds per person for bus trip to waterfalls and it is reported that all income goes to one kingpin and all this is completely siphoned out of the state without paying any taxes with the blessings of the Government. With proper planning and tax collection it should provide better revenue for the state than Casinos which turn our Mandovi river into a sewer.
The world Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index is based on Ground transport infrastructure - quality of roads, buses, subways, taxis, presence of aggregators and major car rental companies besides Safety Security and Price Competitiveness. Millennials are more tech-savvy and are depending on the indexes and ratings on forums rather than word of mouth. Travelers today look for experience and they take instance decisions on transportation. More and more Tourists are Free Independent Travelers and want to move quickly and seamlessly and will choose alternative destinations when access is difficult. The elected reps should hire consultants like Andhra has done for better decisions.
When will the BJP led government in Goa wake up before we see more Ola cabs from across the border. Partnership with Ola is required before it's too late.
