Hello, we are Eva-Maria and Axel. We live on Via Umberto I in Cartoceto, in the Marche region of Italy, and we are here to tell our story and ask for your help.
On Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at around 1:00 p.m., our beloved dog Marroni was hit and killed by a car travelling at excessive speed along our street. The driver apparently stopped, but then threw our dead dog into a hedge without contacting us or reporting the incident.
This heartbreaking event is the sad culmination of a series of worrying incidents caused by the high speed of vehicles travelling through this historic area, putting not only animals but also people at risk.
Excessive traffic and speeding have now become part of everyday life on Via Umberto I, a street in the historic centre of Cartoceto. Despite numerous attempts to contact the local authorities by email and through formal requests, collected signatures and other initiatives, no concrete measures have yet been taken to improve or guarantee the safety of residents and their animals.
We are proposing a simple and concrete solution: transform Via Umberto I into a pedestrian zone. This measure would not only protect residents and improve the quality of life in our neighbourhood, but would also preserve the historic and cultural character of our beloved town.
Studies show that the creation of pedestrian areas can significantly reduce traffic accidents and improve the well-being of local communities. Cities such as Lucca and Siena have already implemented similar measures in their historic centres, with significant benefits for safety and tourism.
Join us in calling on the Municipality of Cartoceto to act now to protect the lives of its citizens and their four-legged companions.
Sign this petition and help us transform Via Umberto I into a safe and liveable place for everyone. Our safety can no longer wait.
