Chess Venues

Chess Venues
The Issue
It matters because there should be no objections to playing a chess match in any venue that provides comfortable playing conditions, with tables and chairs spaced to allow easy access, and is reasonably quiet, clean, warm, well- lit, and ventilated with adequate toilet facilities.
“Chess clubs should be free to organise competitive matches at a member’s home address, providing that the requirements of the regional chess authority have been met and that all safeguarding and health and safety regulations are met.
Why it matters: it is often prohibitively expensive to host chess matches in pubs, clubs or public halls. Chess is a great mechanism for furthering social cohesion and inclusion. Excessive costs can make it too expensive to promote. Private venues need to ensure that:
- Fire regulations
- Health and Safety regulations
- Safeguarding issues are all fully documented.
