Charge Donald Trump with crimes against humanity
The Issue
The United States prides itself on being a beacon of freedom and democracy; a nation built on the principles of justice, due process, and human rights. Yet, during Donald Trump's presidency, these ideals have been challenged, not only within our borders, but beyond them. Trump has authorized extrajudicial killings of noncombatant citizens along the coasts of Venezuela and Colombia. These acts, carried out in international waters, violate the very rules of law and justice that America stands for. They are not acts of self-defense nor are they justified by any credible threat. Instead, they appear to be attempts to score political points at the cost of innocent lives.
International law holds leaders accountable for crimes against humanity. These include acts such as extrajudicial killings, which the International Criminal Court defines as illegal executions carried out without judicial sanction. Rodrigo Duterte is currently in custody at The Hague for killing 76 alleged drug dealers and users during his time in power in the Philippines. The crimes by Donald Trump are grave and demand immediate and thorough investigation by impartial bodies. The international community must demonstrate its commitment to justice by holding him accountable.
Charging Donald Trump with these crimes would send a strong message that global bodies uphold accountability irrespective of power and position. It will affirm that no one is above the law, not even the president of the United States.
Let us protect the founding principles of liberty and justice by ensuring that these crimes do not go unpunished. By signing this petition, you stand for justice and the rule of law, expressing your demand for accountability and the upholding of international human rights. Please join me in this effort to ensure justice is served.
