Media has two functions, to reflect the reality of our societies and to disseminate ideas, opinions and values into them. The Australian Bachelor and Bachelorette, have repeatedly failed to reflect the reality of Australian society in its casting. The values, ideas and opinions circulated through the show have become so monotonous as a result of this persistently homogenous casting. 

The repetitive, predictable, heteronormative anglo-centric nature of the show enduring throughout times where issues around representation and equality are paramount, simply isn't acceptable any longer.

Ethnic Background, Orientation, Religion. Show us people that look like all of Australia. Show us diversity; that is who we are as a nation and you have not represented us for who we are.

The defence of it being too difficult to organise is not viable, as the mould for the series has been broken twice this year - the show adapted for the COVID-19 Lockdown & also for two Caucasian sisters to concurrently be the Bachelorette. Adaptation is clearly possible when required.

You have an opportunity to trial-blaze what is already forthcoming, you can be on the front-foot of change, make history and I guarantee you, you will garner more attention & support than you have ever encountered. 

If not, watch your viewership plummet, as everyone who signs this petition is committing to refrain from tuning in & turn to more representative television freely available to us on streaming services. We are speaking with our patronage, what is your answer?
