Channel 7 remains silent but we will continue to make our voices heard

What a crazy few weeks! Since this petition launched in November, we have amassed over 23,000 signatures! The petition has been promoted by various media outlets both nationally and overseas, and I was also interviewed by News.com.au. Even The Chasers Media Circus gave our petition a shout out! Men and women around the world have raised their voices, and made a very strong statement that misogyny and sexism will not be tolerated.  Just today an opinion article was published "Dear Eminem, Robin Thicke and Redfoo: Just stop" We've compiled links to some of these media items here: http://www.collectiveshout.org/x_factor_literally_dont_rehire_red_foo   Disappointingly, Channel 7 are still refusing to comment, with one employee by the name of Christine advising me : “if you haven’t heard a comment so far, or there hasn’t been an announcement, then it’s likely there is not one to be made.”   While Channel 7 state that they cannot help, as X Factor has finished for 2014, they continue to promote RedFoo on the station. During a recent 'Sunday Night' segment, they aired a repeat of an interview with RedFoo earlier this year, in which he is promoted as a fun loving, sensitive and caring  mentor to young contestants on the X Factor. He also discusses his problematic childhood, and how his mother is the most special lady in his life.   Sadly, Redfoo's respect for women is very select - as his new song and video very clearly demonstrate.    Despite my questions regarding who to speak with, it appears there is no one within channel 7 or X Factor who will speak about this issue.   Channel 7's silence is not only disappointing but appalling, especially given their supposed ‘’stance’’ on violence against women, and their endorsement of White Ribbon day.    Channel 7s Weekend Sunrise recently aired a 4 minute segment about White Ribbon Day and violence against women.  Sunrise presenter and White Ribbon Day ambassador Andrew O’Keefe stated that changing a culture of VAW starts with taking a stand against sexist and demeaning attitudes towards women. Check it out here: https://au.tv.yahoo.com/sunrise/video/watch/25588785/white-ribbon-day/  This is a really important message, but it is completely undermined by Channel 7’s ignorant and dismissive response to Redfoo’s sexist and demeaning attitudes towards women.     I'm not giving up - it's time to raise the bar and keep the pressure on Channel 7. Will you join with me?    Contact Andrew O’Keefe, Weekend Sunrise presenter and White Ribbon Ambassador at this email: sunrise@seven.com.au Include ‘Att. Andrew O’Keefe’ and a link to the petition: http://www.collectiveshout.org/x_factor_literally_dont_rehire_red_foo   Tweet @Channel7 and @sunriseon7 , use the #literallyicant hashtag and let them know you expect them to follow through with their White Ribbon Day commitment.  Together, we can make a change. Here's another opportunity to make your voice heard, a petition calling for YouTube to pull the video: https://www.change.org/p/youtube-please-take-down-the-play-n-skillz-literally-i-can-t-video-as-it-clearly-advertises-a-graphic-porn-site-within-it-song-features-redfoo-lil-jon-enertia-mcfly
