Chicago is known to have a rich and complex history. But like other cities, Chicago is known for criminal activity. Specifically in the form of street gang activity. Most of the gang territories are located at South Side and West Side Chicago, with fewer gang territories by North Chicago. (Chicago Office of Public Safety Administration). Most of the crimes in Chicago that involve violence, homicide, etc. are sometimes linked to gang activity. Besides crime and gang-activity, Chicago has other problems. North Chicago and Central Chicago are deemed the areas of better income in Chicago. But the West Side and South Side are unfortunately deemed to have lower income areas. The city overall has poverty rates of 17.2%. The minority neighborhoods of West Side and South Side Chicago face poverty rates up to 51% as of 2021 (Illinois Policy). For the environment for Chicago. West and South Side Chicago face higher rates of air pollution and vulnerability than any other areas of Chicago (Chicago.gov).

So basically, the West Side and South Side Chicago have been a hotspot of crime, poverty, and are in not so good conditions.
