Change Vehicle Excise Duty Rules for Fairness

Change Vehicle Excise Duty Rules for Fairness
The Issue
As a motorist, I'm fed up with being ripped off each time I change my vehicle and I'm sure many of you feel the same. Every month, the government profits from drivers like us when we switch vehicles and either lose a month of our paid duty or have to pay for a full month of the vehicle excise duty (VED) unnecessarily. This system is flawed and unfair, leaving us paying more into the pot and receiving nothing in return.
Motorists contribute millions to the government coffers monthly through vehicle excise duty, often without seeing any corresponding benefit. We deserve a system that doesn't take advantage of those who need or choose to change their vehicle frequently. The current system mandates that VED is calculated from the beginning of the month, leading to lost payments if a vehicle is switched mid-month.
There's a solution that is simple and fair: align the VED schedule with the MOT schedule. Rather than starting VED from the beginning of a calendar month, it should be calculated based on the date of purchase or change of vehicle, extending for either six months or twelve months according to the motorist's preference. This adjustment would ensure that we only pay for the time we actually own and use the vehicle.
It's time for the government to implement a more equitable system that reflects the needs of modern motorists. By adopting this change, the government creates a fairer playing field and restores trust among drivers across the nation.
Sign this petition to demand the government change the vehicle excise duty calculation to a fairer system that benefits all motorists. Your support could lead to a significant and positive change for drivers everywhere.
