The Issue

I am writing this petition as a concerned resident of Fife, Scotland. My family and I are currently facing a difficult living situation that highlights a significant issue with the way Fife Council allocates housing to those in need.

As a mother of two daughters and a grandmother, I find myself in the unfortunate position of having both my daughters and my grandson sharing a single room. Due to personal circumstances my daughter and grandson are required to remain living at home with me and despite applying for larger accommodation, we have been waiting endlessly without any progress. This is a reality that far too many families are confronted with, as they remain squeezed into unsuitable housing while waiting for an appropriate property allocation that meets their needs.

Currently, Fife Council's housing allocation system seems unable to adequately address the urgency of housing needs for families like mine. There is an apparent lack of consideration for overcrowding, the needs of children, and the importance of keeping families in stable and suitable living conditions. Such circumstances not only affect the physical living environment but also have negative impacts on mental and emotional well-being.

In Fife, according to recent statistics, the waiting time for social housing can exceed several years, with families and individuals left in limbo. The current system does not appear to prioritize those in most desperate need of adequate housing. This situation is both unfair and unsustainable.

Therefore, I urge Fife Council to reform their housing allocation system immediately. A more transparent and equitable method that prioritizes families in overcrowded and substandard conditions is essential. Housing is a fundamental human right, and every individual deserves a safe and comfortable living environment.

This petition aims to gather the support of residents in Fife and beyond to demand change. By taking action now, we can influence fairer housing policies that truly reflect the needs and rights of all residents. Please consider adding your voice to this cause by signing this petition and advocating for a more fairer housing allocation system in Fife.

Together, we can create a change that ensures housing justice for all. Please sign this petition to support a fair and equitable housing allocation process in Fife.
