I am a freshmen music education major at University of Delaware. I am enrolled in a beginner keyboard skills I class here at the school of music, as I come from a background of no keyboard experience. Unfortunately the mandatory class for MUED students offered at the UDSOM is not beginner friendly. We are being made to improvise, play challenging chords, sight read, and cover songs with having no background of playing piano. Others share their frustration with this course because we are not being taught how to play piano. Others and I are struggling in this course because we are simply not being taught. This will not set us up for success in our future music careers.

In the future, we are hoping to change the curriculum after many have complained. The class should be for learning how to play piano first and foremost.
