Change the traffic light at 268th St and Fraser Highway in Aldergrove, BC
The Issue
I have lived at the intersection of 268th Street and Fraser Highway in Aldergrove, BC for 12 years. Over this time, I have witnessed numerous major car accidents—occurring every 4 to 6 months—often resulting in fatalities and serious injuries. This troublesome intersection lacks a crucial safety feature: a left-turning signal, which is desperately needed to prevent the frequent and severe accidents that happen here.
The residents of Aldergrove, particularly those of us who live near this intersection, face a daily risk when trying to navigate through this area. The intersection is a main artery for people traveling to their homes, and during rush hour, the low visibility of oncoming traffic makes it particularly dangerous. Despite these severe safety concerns, the city has not prioritized making necessary changes. Although street signs exist, they are insufficient to prevent the hazards witnessed here regularly.
Even when drivers are following traffic rules, they continue to be involved in these accidents, which highlights the urgent need for improvements. We urgently need a dedicated left-turn signal at this intersection to enhance safety and reduce the frequency of tragic accidents. A simple change like this could save lives and spare families from the heartbreak of losing loved ones due to preventable traffic incidents.
but it’s not just drivers who are at risk at this intersection, Many of the middle school and high school children who live on the north side of Fraser Highway Use this interception to get to and from school if any of these accidents happened during this car accident or any of the recent car accidents, those children would not be here with us today.
According to a study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, dedicated left-turn signals significantly reduce the number of crashes at intersections. Implementing this at the 268th Street and Fraser Highway intersection would be a proactive measure to protect drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians alike.
We call on the township of Langley to act swiftly and responsibly. The cost of implementing a left-turn signal is far outweighed by the lives it will save and the injuries it will prevent. Let's make Aldergrove a safer place for everyone.
Please sign this petition to demand the installation of a left-turn signal at the intersection of 268th Street and Fraser Highway. We need immediate action to prevent further tragedies and ensure the safety of our community members. Your support can make a difference—sign now to help us bring safety to our streets.
