change the marriage law

The Issue

Ben Leypoldt and Melissa Foglesong first met in grade school. They have been together since the 6th grade, and after 15 years of being a couple, they have decided to get married.

Ben and Melissa both qualify for disability and receive benefits through Social Security. As the law stands, their incomes would be cut by 25% if they get married. This law makes it very difficult for people receiving disability benefits to get married and continue to live independently.
People receiving disability benefits shouldn’t be penalized for wanting to get married!
