I wrote an article about how deeply this incident touched me and how I lost a brother just because he didn't support the animal rights! The link to the article is given below.
OTHER IMPORTANT UPDATES:
9 hours ago: There was so much of public outrage for Bhadra but this happens everyday to our street dogs at the Chennai corporations pound in Pullianthope. The Greater Chennai Corporation pick up dogs for the ABC programme in an inhumane way, They are not fed or even given water regualrly. We hear that the surgeries are performed by non veterinarians and sometimes done by dog catchers themselves. Like in the pictures below , the wounds are not stitched back properly and the most of the organs are let hanging out and eventually the dog dies a painful death. They use flaming candles to "notch" the dogs ears. There are pregnant dogs which are taken in and sometimes they give birth inside the pound itself. Most of the dogs are relocated to different areas and no proper record is maintained. The dogs which get back on to the street are infected with either Canine Distemper or Parvo. The gates of the Pullianthope and Llyod's road pounds are closed for public. They dont let any of us inside cause they dont want us to find out what is happening. From 1995 there were 2 NGO's who were collabrated with the Chennai Corporation for the ABC programme. They have been thrown out cause the Corporation wants a free hand in the ABC programme. The images clearly show why they want a free hand. On an average , anywhere between 5-7 dogs die inside the pound and so many die after they are dropped back from surgery. The place is extremely unhygienic and dogs go through so much of pain and torture. The people responisble are Dr. Mahendran ( vet officer of corporation of chennai), Dr.Swaminathan and Dr.Inbaraj (vets performing the surgery). The images are taken secretly in a phone camera so the quality is low. We have been trying hard to get the ABC in place , we infact organised a protest few months back outside the Llyods pound but all in vain. They dont listen. Please share this post and help us reach out to the right people.
