Change the Lake Central High School Indian Mascot

The Issue

Lake Central High School (previously Dyer Central High School) has been around for over 100 years. In those years, the “Indian” mascot was adopted and used to represent the school and its sports teams. In recent findings, it has been discovered that the mascot has been used in racist caricatures and other offensive materials. In current-day Lake Central, you can find remnants of this touchy subject matter, such as the football field being called the “burial grounds,” among other ignorant things. Although the mascot has been drastically improved, it is still wrong to have an “Indian” representing the school.
