Meeting with Superintendent, Dr. Kathy Murphy

Good Evening, I wanted to update the petition signers tonight. I have not been pushing for more signatures for the petition in the last two weeks because after meeting with Mr. Derrick Murphy I began to see progress being made, in the effort, to give the petition a platform to be heard. I want to thank Mr. Derrick Murphy, HCS Board President, for talking to Superintendent, Dr. Kathy Murphy about the petition we have signed. Mr. Murphy contacted her two weeks ago. Last week, Dr. Kathy Murphy and I met at Hoover City School's main office. Dr. Kathy Murphy spent well over an hour with me discussing the situation with my daughter that has led me to petition for a system to be developed and implemented of parent notification, in the case, of a missing Hoover City School student. We were able to discuss many aspects of what a notification system would look like. Dr. Murphy agreed that there needed to be a system in place. She stated, 'We do not want our Principal's having to make these type decisions in the time of crisis. There needs to be a system for this.' She committed to calling Hoover City Schools attorney's to have them research the legal ramifications of such a system. Dr. Murphy asked me for 2-3 weeks to look into the legal aspect and then she is going to get back in touch with me with more information. I would like to thank Dr. Kathy Murphy for her time and the willingness to look into this situation and for the compassion she showed. Hopefully, we are on the road to making Hoover Schools more safe. I also want to thank all of you for signing the petition from the start. If you will please share this update, the more signatures we can get the more the administration will know we want this system. It made sense to our superintendent so I have great hopes for change.
