Change the Florida Law on Cyber Bullying to protect our Children

The Issue

We need to hold accountable the individuals that harm our children over social platforms and texting platforms. Suicide is the second leading cause of death for teens in this country. That alone is frightening.

In the state of Florida it is currently not a crime to cyber bully someone. These individuals need to be held accountable for their actions and more so when there is a loss of life due to their bullying, their mean words, the spreading of hate or verbal harassment. Teens are a lot more fragile than adults might think.

We as Floridians need to take a stand to protect our children and we need to get this in front of the law makers to get this changed. We can’t do it alone. Our teenagers' lives are at stake here. We need to take a stand to protect them against these online threats, these online bullies.

There are good programs in place for suicide prevention but there aren’t any laws in place to hold the cyber bullies accountable that were either responsible for or partially responsible for causing so much mental damage to someone that they felt the need to commit suicide.

We need to take action now before there is more loss of life here in Florida. Before another precious teenager feels like their life doesn’t matter and it ends in suicide. We need to hold the ones that did the bullying accountable and get them the help they need too. Because at the end of the day, most of these cyber bullies are also children and other teenagers and also need help too, but they need to be held accountable.

Let’s make this a law here in Florida. Let’s makes a change.
