Change the definition of Animal Rights

The Issue

We all know the basis of animal rights.

It means to give animals the freedom from exploitation and abuse, for them to be equal to humans.

And what's a better way to show that statement than to share our shelter with animals?

But, there has been a mixup because of false accusations, misinformation, and rumors.

People falsely believe that animal rights means humans shouldn't share bonds with animals at all.

Some humans have even gone as far to assume animal rights activists abandon domestic animals.

As an animal rights activist myself I can confirm that is not true.

The True Meaning of Animal Rights as a companion animal Caretaker:

When you're an animal rights activist that cares for a companion animal. This is where the idea of treating animals equally applies.

A domestic animal or wild animal lacking instincts or high targeted for human assassination is the equivalent of an orphaned child.

Which means that as an animal rights activist, it's your duty to treat the animal in your care as if they were your child, and this could mean even integrating them into human routines, such as letting them eat out of the same dishes you use, sit on the couch with you, even eat with you.

It also means that when you treat them like family, you devote your funding to them like they're family.

Which means say you have a dog, you want the best for them, which means you want them to have durable toys to keep them entertained for days, even weeks, so you want at least a few $10-$20 toys. You want your dog to have good food, then you buy them $20-$30 food. Vet visits? Don't deny them, pay them!

You'll also supervise your animals like your kids, you'd never let your 4 year old child roam outside unsupervised, so why would you let your dog or cat roam? You wouldn't let your child eat too much junk food or eat strange things, same thing applies to your animal companions.

But what about animals like fish or reptiles?

What about them? If you mean how their care is different from mammals or birds, that's the equivalent to having a special needs child, they need enclosures that suit them, the same way a special needs child would need a specialized room or house to thrive.

But other than that, the other qualities stay the same, high quality enrichment, high quality food, veterinary care.

Conclusion:

The definition of Animal Rights means to free animals from exploitation and abuse.

Being a caring decent parent is not exploitation or abuse.

If Animal Rights was really about not having domestic animals, then human rights would mean it'd be wrong to have children.

Because by the logic of the false definition of animal rights, human rights would mean that being a parent is the equivalent to being a child slave owner.

Animal caretakers=parents.

We're not slave owners like factory farms, SeaWorld, roadside zoos, Miami SeaQuarium, pet stores, breeders, and animal testing labs.

We're parents, we're mother's and fathers.
