Petition to Reschedule Week 1 of Women’s Finals to Saturday at Pearcedale- Change their mind to host
We, the undersigned players, coaches, volunteers, and supporters of community women’s football, respectfully call on the league to reconsider the current scheduling of Week 1 of the Women’s Finals.
We propose that the finals be moved from Sunday afternoon/evening to Saturday, to be held at Pearcedale, where both ovals are available due to no men’s home game that day. Pearcedale has opted to NOT host the finals due to having no teams in the finals- as well as lack of volunteers from the club themselves. Voulenteering is not something women’s football is new to, as we continually do so every week for every game provide multiple volunteers.
Alternatively, Frankston YCW, the original venue, is also available on the Saturday and could still host the matches if preferred- we understand that a similar issue has been the volunteers for the club, however as previously mentioned we are not new to this concept.
If neither club wishes to do so, we have had outside clubs in discussion to use their ovals, for example the Casey Fields Ovals. These ovals are premiere destinations having hosted VFL, VFLW and AFLW games as well as training sessions for Melbourne Demons AFL men’s team.
We believe this change would benefit all involved — improving player welfare, avoiding junior fixture clashes, and creating a stronger overall finals experience.
Reasons for the Proposed Change:
✅ Both Pearcedale ovals are free – no men’s home game scheduled.
✅ YCW is also available Saturday if needed.
✅ Supports player recovery and wellbeing by avoiding late Sunday scheduling.
✅ Prevents junior fixture disruption on Sunday.
✅ Improves the finals experience for players, clubs, volunteers, and families.
Finals are a celebration of our game. Let’s make them the best they can be.
