Dear Netflix,

We, the undersigned, are writing to express our concern and disappointment regarding the casting choices in the upcoming historical movie directed by Antoine Fuqua about the Carthaginian General Hannibal Barca. While we appreciate the efforts to bring historical figures to the screen, it has come to our attention that the cast chosen for this film does not accurately represent the historical and geographical context of Hannibal Barca.

Hannibal Barca was a Punic Carthaginian general, born in the city of Carthage in the ancient region of North Africa. His legacy is deeply rooted in the Punic Mediterranean culture, and it is crucial that any representation of him in film reflects this historical accuracy.

The current casting choices appear to deviate from this accuracy by drawing upon actors from central/south African backgrounds. While we respect the talent of these individuals, it is important to maintain authenticity when portraying historical figures, especially those as significant as Hannibal Barca.

We understand the importance of diversity and representation in the film industry, and we fully support the inclusion of actors from diverse backgrounds. However, this should not come at the expense of historical accuracy, particularly when representing figures from distinct cultures and regions.

We kindly request that Netflix reconsider the casting choices for this film and strive for a more accurate representation of Hannibal Barca and the Punic Mediterranean culture. By doing so, Netflix can contribute to a more informed and respectful portrayal of historical events and figures.

We, the undersigned, believe that an accurate representation of Hannibal Barca will not only enhance the educational value of the film but also promote a greater understanding and appreciation of the rich history and diversity of the ancient world.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. We hope that Netflix will take our concerns into consideration and make the necessary adjustments to ensure a more authentic representation of Hannibal Barca in this upcoming historical movie.

Sincerely,
