The Issue

As a proud member of the Beggs community and a dedicated supporter of our schools, I urge everyone to consider a change to our school mascot, the "Demons." While we cherish the history and memories associated with our team, it's crucial to reflect on the values and messages we pass on to our children. It's not about erasing the past but evolving for a better future that aligns with the community we aspire to build.

The name "Demons" may hold a special place in the hearts of many, but we must ask ourselves whether it represents the ideals we want to instill in our students. Our children deserve a mascot that embodies positive attributes and resonates with the principles of courage, respect, and community spirit. This change isn't rooted in opposition to what has been, but is a call to look forward and embrace what can be.

According to data from the National Education Association, school environments play a significant role in shaping a child's educational experience and overall development. Symbols represent more than just a team; they carry the ethos and values of the school. By choosing a mascot that encourages positivity and integrity, we are investing in a healthier atmosphere for our students, fostering inclusivity and unity.

We propose assembling a diverse committee of local educators, parents, students, and alumni to engage in this transformation process. This group would be tasked with researching and presenting alternative mascots that uphold our community’s spirit and connect us with a vision for the future. Through inclusive decisions, we can craft a new tradition that still respects Beggs' storied past while setting a positive precedent for generations to come.

Now is the time to show our commitment to our youth by replacing the "Demons" with a symbol that both reflects our community's rich history and adapts to the evolving understanding of the values we hold dear. Please join us in this endeavor to create a brighter, more positive environment for Beggs students. Sign the petition today and be a part of making this constructive change happen.
