What is this about?: To change the CC&Rs to allow chickens.

Why?: To allow families the ability to provide for their own and hedge against the inflation. Much like growing vegetables! 

In the last year many families in our community have felt the overwhelming pressure of economic hardship. As we watch uncertainty descend on our lives we seek ways to hedge our bets and lessen potential blows to our financial system. All this to say WE WANT CHICKENS! After some brainstorming it has come to my attention that the current CC&Rs do not allow for the raising of chickens and this is not inline with the county of Spokane’s regulations on the matter. I seek your help in getting these CC&R, specifically paragraph 4.7 “Animals”, changed to allow for the ownership of Chickens.

To those who are worried about noise/being woken up by a rooster: Spokane county does not allow roosters in residential areas. Laying hens are only allowed, and if need be in the future there are plenty of breeds that are considered “quiet chickens” that could be specifically named if we decide it to be necessary.

To those who are worried about smell: chickens are some of the cleanest smelling birds you could raise! I would argue that dogs smell much worse. As with most things proper care is paramount to being a good neighbor and there are rules within the CC&RS to reinforce neighbors to keep up the standard of care. 

by signing you are helping families in our local community be able to better provide, you are allowing kids to learn, parents to teach and learn, as well as families to not have to stress as much as we see the cost of living rise in our area. 

I hope you will consider what some of our families in our community are experiencing and help make things a bit less stressful for us.
