Currently, the bus and train connections are awful after 6 o'clock! After arriving at Barnstaple Train Station, it is unpleasant to realise how long you must wait for a bus. The fact that two buses would have left the stop in the opposite direction before an Ilfracombe bus arrived is reprehensible. Currently, bus 21 arrive in Barnstaple at 20 and 25 minutes after the hour and trains arrive 30 and 35 minutes after the hour, correspondingly. This results in a typical wait time of 50 minutes, though it may be longer if the bus is running late. There are also many buses which go from Bideford and other areas to the rail station just in time for the train to depart from Barnstaple. People who are going out for the evening or who cannot afford a car must wait 50 minutes or leave Exeter at 4 pm or sooner. Taxis are expensive, and owning a car isn't always a possibility. This is definitely not fair. Sometimes keeping people out of the chilly, dark evenings. A few hundred people are affected by this and have been. I've made a petition so that Stagecoach and Devon County Council can actually understand how serious of an issue this is. They have both been unfair in not responding to emails, and "emailing local depot manager" is not adequate after numerous calls and emails. Bus timings could be more sensibly planned, such as arriving at 45 or 50 past, to make the travel more comfortable. Please sign the petition so that we can have better transit and scheduling.
