Having long summer holidays and then the two weeks Easter break being the only long dictated times when families can plan their 2 week trips and holidays, the prices during these periods surge, making holidays less and less affordable for so many. At the same time, finding childcare can be a struggle during these long periods, affecting both the children and parents.

We propose a different distribution of school holidays: 2 weeks in February, 2 weeks at Easter, 2 weeks in May, 3 weeks in August, 2 weeks in October and the usual Christmas break. This balanced distribution throughout the year will not only make holidays more affordable, but also make it easier to find and plan for childcare.

According to a report by ABTA, 45% of UK families have reassessed their holiday plans due to cost factors aggravated by school holiday times (ABTA, 2019). This rearrangement would ease the financial burden and allow for better, more relaxed scheduling for families with school-age children.
