Hello everyone,

Thank you all for your continued support with your donations to promote this petition, shares to family and communities and engagement to make sure we have a connected voice when we bring this fight for Sonic Fiber to the mayor of San Francisco. As a reminder, there are regulations that prevents Sonic from moving forward, such as microtrenching requirements.

Recently, I had a meeting to discuss the best approach to bring this issue to SF's mayor with Sonic's Director of Regulatory and Government Affairs, Bill Greenlaw. We discussed our thoughts and ideas you've provided prior to the meeting:

1. A bill passed in 2021, SB 378, apparently allows the use of microtrenching as well as was signed with the goal of increasing high speed internet in California.

2. There may be a need for an approach that takes the existing trench depth requirements as a given (eg lobbying Sonic to dig deeper, fiber subsidies, municipal fiber lines, whatever).

We concluded that the best course of action is to reach 1,000 signatures before we bring this to the mayor. We would only have one shot at this, and this number looks a lot more appealing as a community want than a number that is in the hundreds.

In the meantime, we are trying to get more information on the microtrenching requirements from the city and go from there.

So, the sooner we reach 1,000 signatures for this petition, the sooner we can bring this want for competitive Internet to the city.

As of writing this, we are at around 705 signatures. I know we can do this, we've gotten this far, and I know we want this change in the city.

Keep promoting, keep sharing and keep posting. Let's make it happen!
