Change Huntsville City School's Dress Code
The Issue
The Huntsville City School's dress code is sexist.
Girls are targeted and told that our bodies are distracting males.
Not only is this completely wrong but it's targeting young women who are just trying to figure out who they are!
If boys being distracted is truly such an issue why do we teach girls to change their clothes and not tell boys to change their mindsets?
WE ARE NOT OBJECTS.
WE ARE NOT DISTRACTIONS.
WE ARE CHILDREN. MINORS.
WE WILL NOT BE SEXUALIZED.
Ripped jeans, leggings, tank tops should all be acceptable.
There is no reason that a girl shouldn't be able to wear a tank top while guys can wear them.
____
Goal: 200 signs
After not getting a response from my principal I contacted my vice principal and was told that we would talk when I hit 200. She argued that they want us to dress for success. I understand this, I do. But there's a difference between wanting us to dress for "success" and making a fool out of a girl who is wearing something "revealing" her thigh. I was also told that teachers have a dresscode, I get that I've looked into it and I get it but there's a difference between adults and children. If the teachers felt that the dress code for themselves was unfair they'd have every right to do what I'm doing. I'm fighting for the students. The ones who can't speak out or simply won't.
Thank you.
