The Issue

Our senior year is supposed to be a time of celebration, excitement, and making memories that will last a lifetime. However, we, the senior class at CTHS, feel that an essential part of our high school experience, our prom, is being overshadowed by an unfair decision. Our assistant principal decided on a tropical theme for our prom, leaving us with no real choice. All the theme options presented to us were variations of a tropical theme, ignoring the diverse preferences and creative ideas of the students.

Prom is more than just a dance; it's a rite of passage that marks the end of our high school journey and the beginning of our future endeavors. It is meant to reflect our tastes and interests, providing us with a sense of ownership over this special event. By not allowing us to express our voices in the selection process, it feels like our opinions, our individuality, and our collective spirit as a class are being dismissed.

Having a prom theme that truly aligns with our values and preferences is important, not just for the sake of tradition, but because it enables us to create a night that we will cherish. We believe in the power of student voices to influence decisions that directly impact us, and we are asking for the opportunity to take part in making our prom a true reflection of who we are.

We propose that our school administration allow us, the senior class, to vote on a broader range of themes that we can resonate with. We can organize a survey or a meeting to discuss and decide on themes that genuinely interest us. This democratic approach will not only engage us more but also foster a stronger sense of community and mutual respect between students and faculty.

Join us in our quest to celebrate our senior prom with a theme that represents our creativity, diversity, and shared experiences. Sign this petition to show your support for a prom theme that is chosen by the students, for the students.
