Change Conway's Zoning Laws to Allow Professional Piercing Studios
The Issue
Help Bring Professional Piercing Studios to Conway, South Carolina
Conway families deserve access to professional body-piercing services that prioritize safety, sanitation, and proper training.
Currently, Conway's zoning ordinance restricts standalone body-piercing establishments as a primary business use. This makes it difficult for professional piercers to establish dedicated studios within the city, limiting the options available to local residents.
One of my biggest concerns is the lack of access to dedicated professional piercing studios for parents seeking ear piercings for their children and babies. Traditional piercing guns can cause blunt-force trauma to the tissue, and reusable components can present challenges for proper sterilization. Families should have access to professionals who use sterile, single-use piercing needles and follow appropriate infection-control procedures.
A dedicated professional piercing studio can provide a controlled environment designed specifically for piercing, with appropriate training, sanitation procedures, and equipment. These are important considerations when choosing a provider for ourselves and our children.
I am a professional body piercer working toward opening my own dedicated studio in Conway. My vision is to provide a clean, professional environment with single-use needle piercing, proper sterilization procedures, and a strong commitment to client safety.
However, this request is bigger than one business. Allowing properly regulated standalone piercing studios could support local entrepreneurship, expand service options for residents, and give parents another option when seeking professional ear-piercing services for their children.
What are we asking for?
We are asking Conway City Council to reconsider Section 5.1.24 of the Unified Development Ordinance and explore an amendment that would allow standalone professional body-piercing studios in appropriate commercial zoning districts, subject to applicable health, sanitation, and licensing requirements.
We are not asking the city to compromise safety standards. We are asking for the opportunity to operate dedicated professional studios that meet appropriate requirements.
If you believe Conway residents should have access to professional, dedicated piercing studios, please sign this petition and share it with others in our community.
Every signature helps demonstrate that residents and supporters want the City of Conway to consider this change.
Let's work together toward more professional piercing options for Conway families.
