The students of the University of Arkansas want their courses changed to pass/fail.

The Issue

At the beginning of the semester the students at the University of Arkansas agreed to be taught in person, to learn from the environment around them and be surrounded with helpful resources such as class plus. Due to COVID19 this has all changed. Since, our courses have been moved online the students at the University of Arkansas see it fit to make all classes for the spring 2020 semester to change to pass/fail.
For many courses an online class is not ideal, both for the teacher and the student. Personally, I know that having courses online is extremely difficult for me. I am a hands on learner and being alone makes learning unnecessarily difficult, as it does for many other students as well. Not being able to ask the teacher questions in person or even work on problems with my friends next to me in class, greatly changes the learning experience we students agreed to. We do not believe that it is fair or just to change our curriculum and expect us to do just as well in these courses. This major change that nobody could have foreseen should not negatively affect our GPA’s.
The students at the university of Arkansas are proud to call ourselves razorbacks. We are thankful for the precautions our university has made in order to protect its students. However, nobody could have guessed that this virus would become so dangerous and greatly affect each of our lives. This being said we believe it is only fair to change our classes to pass fail and give everybody an equal learning opportunity. Some people thrive in courses online and others greatly struggle without the in class resources we had before. These students that signed below believe in the University of Arkansas and want everybody to have an equal learning opportunity, as we all go through these hard times together.
