The Board voted 5-0, with minimal discussion and without public comment, to repeal Policy Statement 1018 on Anti-Racism, citing its redundancy with existing discrimination laws. They argued that the policy is unnecessary. This decision is unacceptable and will be challenged. It is not only morally wrong but also educationally harmful to all students. The Board has the responsibility to ensure that a student’s educational opportunities are not determined by their zip code, skin color, or family background. As a result of this repeal, children will now face overt racism, hate, and microaggressions without any governing authority to defend against them and hold accountable those responsible.
