His plaque was approved. Why is Malachi still waiting?
Hi everyone,
I want to clarify something in my previous update: The board has approved a plaque recognizing Malachi, but he has not yet received it. My earlier wording did not make that distinction clear, and I apologize for that. But it is being held up over some questionable actions by Central Unified's board.
My concern is not that the board has never approved recognition. It is that Malachi is still waiting to receive the recognition that was approved.
I wrote this article to share my son’s story and his role in removing his school’s racist name. The approval of his plaque matters, and I want to acknowledge that. But so does following through.
Malachi deserves to see his contribution recognized, not just approved for recognition.
