Why Will Central Unifed Not Recognize Malachi After Over 4 Years

Why won’t Malachi’s own school recognize him for standing up against a racist name?

I wrote this article to share my son’s story and why recognition matters. He helped change his school’s name, but we are still waiting for him to receive the recognition he deserves.

Board member Naindeep Singh said that a motion to recognize Malachi with a plaque would not even get seconded because of what I did. I do not know what he was referring to. But whatever his concerns about me, my son’s recognition should be based on Malachi’s actions, not mine.

Central Unified’s school board is supposed to serve students. A child should not be denied recognition because of a disagreement with his parent.

This is not the success story it should have been. Changing the name should have been something Malachi’s school celebrated. Instead, we are still asking it to recognize his contribution.
