Dear Petition Supporters,
The news coming from the Central Park Conservancy is that the resurfacing of Skater’s Road will be completed in June with a nice new sports surface to skate on. I will believe it when I see but it is looking like it is going to happen then.
I would like to keep the pressure on by keeping the petition going until we are skating together on the new surface. Currently, they only plan to resurface the north end of Skaters Road. I wrote to the Parks Commissioner (in change of $417 million allocated this year to NYC Parks and Recreation) to ensure the whole of Skaters Road (from the volleyball courts on down) gets resurfaced. A project manager with the conservancy got back to me stating “I have shared your request to have the entirety of the road resurfaced with our planning and construction department.” It does not make sense to do half the job that needs to be done.
So please share this petition with whomever you think feels it is important to have a safe and joyous recreational area in the park for kids from 2 to 92. Our group, the Central Park Rollers will continue to be out there whenever the weather permits. So bring your roller skates, you in-lines or just your feet to dance alongside the skaters. Or simply sit back and enjoy the show. Our tagline is “Community Keeps Us Rolling”. That is what we are all about!
Skater’s Road is located just past Le Pain Quotidian, down the hill walking towards the east side. See image of central park above. Follow us on Instagram. Message me there if you would like to be added to our WhatsApp group used to let the group members know when we will be out there.
Let’s come together this spring and summer to show the world what New Yorkers (and democracy) are all about. “
Thanks to all of you for supporting this petition. Let’s keep this petition rolling until we pass the finish line.
Regards,
Anthony Donoghue
