Fair Hearing on Rail to Northport? says Labour's Tony Savage

You have to wonder. Grow Northland Rail and myself have been getting together a strong business case for the Rail Link to Northport. The businesses I have been talking to are some of the biggest Northland contributors to our fragile economy. And they want in! These businesses are putting pen to paper, eager to get an integrated freight management strategy working for the benefit of Northland. The more we dig the more there seems to be strange things going on! I went to speak for the case for a Port Rail Link at the submissions hearing today at Northland Regional Council. . Thanks to the Councillors that attended and heard us. Great! Curious though transport representatives (Chair Bain & deputy Sinclair) were not in attendance or had given an attendance apology! Must has been something better on, than supporting rail link to Northport? If we want to argue for better access and development of the port facilities (Auckland??) we need all hands to the pump! Surely one could assume they would be most interested in the strong business and economic benefit rail has to offer?
