Central Catholic High School students would like the opportunity to participate in the National School Walkout that survivors of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting have requested. The survivors have requested that students walk out of class on March 14th for 17 minutes at 10:00 A.M. EST. The 17 minutes represent the 17 people killed in the shooting. Students would like to participate without the threat of being punished for truancy (being suspended and serving 10 days of detention) or other disciplinary action. We would like the opportunity to gather in our school's gym from 10:00 AM - 10:17 AM. As students, we deserve the opportunity to exercise our freedom of speech and respectfully protest for a cause that directly affects us. Allowing students to stand in solidarity with the rest of the country will create a sense of nationwide unity that will help inspire more action towards creating and passing gun control legislation. Please show your support by signing this petition.
