On July 14th CDC will suspend dog import from 112 countries due to rabies concerns, setting very strict criteria for getting the import permit.

It means literally ANY import. Even if you live in the US with your dog, your dog is properly vaccinated here, has all the documentation, and you travel to listed countries — now your dog is banned from entry.

A lot of people in the US have their friends and family abroad, and they have nobody to leave their dog with, as this is also risky and stressful both for a person and a dog. Thousands of people now are struggling to change flights and vacation plans to ensure they will be able to return back home with their fluffy family members. And imagine how many dogs will be denied entry starting from July 14th due to these bureaucratic constraints and the fact that lots of people simply do not know about this ban. This is completely devastating. It also prohibits the newly immigrants, people, who are moving to the US to take their dogs with them, because these people are not subject to the import permit. If they want to move to the US, they should leave their dog in their home country.

This literally ruins people's lives.

It is clearly stated: "This suspension applies to all dogs, including puppies, emotional support dogs, and dogs that traveled out of the United States and are returning from a high-risk country”. There are only few exceptions, but basically, they won’t help most of us.

We are asking: WHY didn't CDC leave ANY other legal and safe way to bring your dog in? WHY are the dogs vaccinated in the US banned from entry — is this really a rabies concern? WHY more human procedures were not implemented — like putting dogs vaccinated in the high-risk countries on quarantine and/or allow entry of dogs with the rabies antibodies titers verified in the international laboratories? WHY did CDC announce such a straightforward inhuman ban with NO WAY OUT?

It goes without saying, that rabies is a dangerous disease, and other countries also have precautionary measures against it, but they DO NOT ban dogs vaccinated at home from returning back home, they DO NOT leave people with a difficult decision to make up — to abandon their dogs or not move to the country, they DO NOT ban dogs, that are being imported by animal rescue organizations, which ensure that all vaccines have been done properly. And now CDC does not leave any chance for these dogs to be rescued.

This is an INHUMAN order and this SHOULD BE AMENDED.

WE DEMAND REDEFINING THE CDC IMPORT RESTRICTIONS AND ALLOW DOGS VACCINATED IN THE US TO TRAVEL, WE URGE CDC TO ALLOW IMPORT OF DOGS WITH THE RABIES ANTIBODIES TITRES VERIFICATION, TO IMPLEMENT QUARANTINE MEASURES AT THE BORDER FOR SUSPICIOUS CASES and take any other HUMAN actions to save the nation from rabies and save dogs from dying.
