Schools are the hubs of every community, and Sustainable Schools are systemic catalysts with the power to change the world!  

Did you know that the United Nations has 213 recognized days that are intended to highlight and bring awareness to important issues, and well, some interesting ones too...  Bicycles (June 3), Steelpans (August 11), Toilets (Nov 19), Asteroids (Jun 30) and Arabian Leopards (Feb 10) even have their own day.  Although there is a Youth Day (Aug 12) and Education Day (Jan 24), there is not a single day that recognizes or mentions schools. 

We must raise awareness of the foundational power of school communities to inspire new ways of living and contributing to the world.   Our schools are systemic change innovation hubs that have important tendrils into our communities through not only students, but also parents, educators, businesses, politicians and purchasing power.  Young climate activists like Greta Thunberg and Xiye Bastida have demonstrated that it is the youth that are bravely leading the way and it is time for us to rally around them with support for sustainable education and a celebration of the school communities that are leading the way!  

With this petition we are asking the United Nations to designate October 26th as Sustainable Schools Day to recognize school communities as transformative catalysts for a better world!
