The Issue

Picture the moment. You’ve just scored a last-minute winner, or you're in the stands watching your team's hero do it. Pure elation. It's a feeling like no other - pure, raw emotion and joy - the shirt comes off. And then... the referee reaches for his top pocket and a fine. Talk about a buzzkill. 

For nearly thirty years, lawmakers have treated this iconic celebration as a punishable offense. It is an unnecessary rule that nobody asked for, simply taking the joy out of the game that we all love. 

Gillette and Ian Wright say: "bring back the joy!" We are petitioning to kick the shirt-off yellow card out of the game for good. 

Why are we doing this? 
Gillette believes we should protect the moments worth celebrating. Shirt-off celebrations are emotional, spontaneous, and are the game's purest expression of joy. The current rule is outdated; it strips players of that moment and stops them from being at their best.
