Not the same as Russia draft
Hello all,
A recent draft UNSC resolution put forward by Russia was vetoed, according to reports, because it didn't explicitly condemn Hamas' actions against Israelis. That resolution was also only geared to a ceasefire.
What's proposed here is nothing like it: a UNSC resolution calling for a ceasefire, authorizing a multinational peacekeeping presence and setting up the terms and structure for permanent status negotiations. It also would, naturally, contain language in the preamble condemning the steps Hamas took targeting Israeli civilians.
Now, with reports of over 500 Palestinians killed in a hospital struck by the Israeli military, the case for peacekeeping presence only grows. There should be no going back to the status quo.
In peace,
Raa
