Hi

My meeting to discuss the Waipapa undercroft parking space was called off at short notice, very frustrating as it has already been moved several times. I am pushing to reschedule.

In the meantime I was sent a copy of this email from a Clinical Director today, I have permission to share it.

"I assume you are aware of the ongoing bicycle thefts from around the hospital – at least 3 staff had bikes stolen over the weekend. I understand that it is hard for security to patrol the areas, but it is pretty disheartening to finish a shift, only to find some low-life individuals– who are clearly visible on CCTV – has stolen your bike. We have been asking for cages, or more secure bike parking at Waipapa, for ages. I don’t think it is ok to say that we can use the cage under the old ED, as part of the reason for cycling is to be able to arrive close to work, rather than having to walk 5- 10 minutes, to then shower, and then start work. It is not good for staff morale to be treated like second class citizens, when we are trying to do the right thing by cycling, and an activity that has been encouraged by the DHB.

Looking forward to some positive action."

The police highlighted an increase in bike thefts in ChCh at the end of January this year.

If you are unlucky enough to have a bike stolen or know someone who has please act or ask them to.  Write to the Director of the service and copy to the General Manager, question why Waipapa undercroft can not be used for bike parking and ask for their commitment to see this happen, copy me in and anyone else you think might help us.
