Apologies for the delayed update but mixed messages (fake news?) have abounded. There is (limited) progress in the right direction - see below and attached. Some new bike racks are required and there's no money :(  so if you have any ideas about cash for racks let me know.  It would be good to get racks that fit all shapes and sizes not just skinny road bikes!

Here are current options we are addressing as the operational team for increasing bike parking on Christchurch Hospital Campus.

1.         We have moved some cycle racking not used elsewhere in CDHB to the Hagley under croft. This will provide 60 approx. cycle parks for Hagley (be aware close to 3000 staff will move to Hagley or work majority of their day in Hagley).  There are few staff increases however. We know from our surveying about 21% of staff cycle. There will be no immediate fence enclosure or security swiping access. Each rider will need to supply a safe bike lock to secure their bike to the racks. Security cameras are in these areas 

2.         Some of the current Emergency Department and ICU bike racks will be moved to Hagley end of campus after the 18th of November. This is because immediately these departments and wards move to Hagley there is panel removal work and passive fire internal work to start on these vacated areas in Parkside and Riverside. As the areas will not be occupied therefore moving stands to where the staff are now working makes logical sense. Safety in those previous cycle areas will be compromised with the erection of cranes with fall zones around old Ambulance Bay and ED parking area. The Mortuary Bike enclosure will remain open at all times during the construction work and the access zones will be protected.

3.         The water tanks in front of the main entrance are to be moved as the fire water storage is now on top of Hagley building. These tanks sit inside the current cycle enclosure therefore we can install more secured cycle parks once tanks are removed by Chubb. We have the new cycle racks for this area that we have had in storage at CDHB stores for over two years now due to delays of Hagley building. These are the newer type design of four bikes per rack.

4.         The two other “possible” cycle racking areas which need more work at present is in the LGF East Hagley but at present there are CCC rules to work around or find a solution for this is to happen. The second one in design is the new laydown areas around the new dock areas. In order to make the roading changes there are designs that may allow us to make a separated cycle compound area. This is still in design phase.
