UPDATE
Island Company
As you know, we dropped the petition, your comments, and a list of suggestions off at the Island Company--along with several pounds of what were intended as mitigating cookies for the office--on November 27, 2019. I followed up with an email confirming the delivery on November 29, 2019. I followed up again on Friday, December 6, 2019. To date, I have not received a reply from Mr. Herrel or any other representative of the CIC.

Of course, we fully expected that it would take some time for Mr. Herrel and the CIC Board of Directors to carefully review the materials we delivered and to deliberate on the best possible way for the CIC to be responsive to the many thousands of Avalon residents and visitors that are heartbroken over their decision to close the theatre. We remain very optimistic and expect to hear from a CIC representative very soon.

City of Avalon
1.) The theatre closure was somewhat addressed and tabled (postponed) at the 12/03/19 council meeting. You can watch the short exchange at 12:30 here. Though the members do not so state, we assume the matter was tabled so as to provide the council with the time they need to appropriately research and seriously explore all of the possible ways the City might partner with the CIC in finding a viable path forward. We have every confidence that council representatives will prepare a formal meeting agenda item soon so that they may share the result of their efforts with the many thousands of concerned constituents and Avalon visitors who have asked for their help through this petition.

2.) We were pleased to be able to meet with a councilmember this last weekend. The meeting was very positive and, though it would be premature to provide any details of that meeting at this juncture, we can report that we believe this councilmember truly appreciates the gravity and importance of this issue to all concerned and is committed to trying to find a solution that can work for everyone. We are grateful to the councilmember for the meeting and effort.

Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors (BOS) District Four Representative Janice Hahn
It has come to our attention that Representative Hahn's office had been operating under some misconceptions about the theatre closure and the extent to which the issue is important to District Four constituents. On Friday, November 29, 2019, we prepared and provided to Ms. Hahn some clarification on the matter and a list of the 1,656 of you that are District Four voters.

ACTION ITEM --> If you are a resident of District Four, please do take a moment to email Ms. Hahn to let her office know you care. Her email address is FourthDistrict@bos.lacounty.gov. Avalon residents ARE District Four voters. Not sure if you are a District Four voter? You can look for your zip code in this handy list.

Please note: District Four voters will be voting on their Board of Supervisors representative on March 3, 2020. Ms. Hahn is running for reelection and has at this time at least one challenger.

SUPPORTER LISTS
We have received a few requests for a single list of your names by an individual not acting in an official capacity as a CIC or City of Avalon representative. As you know, we have already shared the petition with both of the entities to which the petition is addressed. I want to state here as conclusively and emphatically as possible that we will not share additional supporter names lists with any individual or entity that is not operating in an official capacity as a representative of the CIC and/or a government agency in efforts to keep the theatre open and operating. We feel that distributing this list to private individuals upon request would be an abuse of the trust you've placed in this effort and we just aren't going to do that. Also, if anyone really wants to know who has signed on, they are welcome to see the 13,905 names scroll on the Change.org site.

That's it for now. Have a good evening, supporters. We'll update you again soon!
