Hello Supporters! Wanted to send out a quick update and some links to some really exciting new press!
UPDATE
I am just back from the island where I spent a great Thanksgiving with my family and friends and where I saw what I hope will NOT be my last movie in our theatre.
While there, we delivered to BOTH the Catalina Island Company and to the City of Avalon, the following documents:
1.) Printed copy of the petition (which is still very much alive and growing with over 12,700 supporters as of this writing! Please continue to share!),
2.) Printed list of your beautiful comments of support for keeping the theatre open, and
3.) Spreadsheet of the suggestions to boost theatre revenue that many of you submitted to our virtual suggestion box.
Please see our "asks" to each entity below:
Catalina Island Company
We asked Randall Herrel, CEO of the Catalina Island Company, to retract the 11/07/19 theatre closure announcement and to partner with all stakeholders in a serious, good-faith effort to explore any/all possible options to continue showing movies in our beloved theatre.
City of Avalon
Pursuant to Avalon City Council Policy §6.1.1.1, we asked The Honorable Mayor Anni Marshall, The Honorable Mayor Pro Tem Cinde MacGugan-Cassidy, The Honorable Councilmember Steve Hoefs, The Honorable Councilmember Oley Olsen, and City Manager Denise Radde to place an item on the agenda for the next city council meeting acknowledging the great importance of this theatre to the community and resolving to partner with the Island Company to find a way to keep the theatre open and operating for all residents and visitors to enjoy.
Our request was submitted in time for consideration for the 12/17/19 council meeting. Agendas are posted at least 72 hours in advance of council meetings. We will be looking for this posting and will report back on the City's response.
MEDIA
We made the front page of the Los Angeles Times on Sunday! A very special thanks to reporter Gustavo Arellano for your interest in our cause and for joining us at Frozen 2 last week! Please see his article here.
We were also featured in California's preeminent Boating and Fishing newspaper, The Log. Please see article here.
THANKS
Thanks to all of you great people who took the time to sign this petition and show how much you care about this theatre. A special note of gratitude to all of our supporters who live in Avalon--especially the scores of you who are not able to support this effort publicly, but took the time to talk to me last week about how much the theatre means to you and to give us your encouragement, THANK YOU!
