Return Stolen Métis Items

The Issue

During the final days of the Northwest Resistance, Canadian forces wantonly looted and desecrated Métis possessions. Many stolen items remain in Canadian possession today. Namely, Louis Riel's personal crucifix, knife, and book of poetry, as well as several articles of Métis clothing are held in the RCMP Heritage Centre.

The RCMP has not adduced any evidence (such as a bill of sale) which would legitimize their possession of these Métis items.

All Métis items of cultural and spiritual significance must be immediately returned.
