Demand our local councillors stand up for the people in our community!
The Issue
We the undersigned demand our local councillors fight for a fair share of emergency funding to support our foodbanks in the Amman Valley.
Carmarthenshire County Council announced an emergency fund to help foodbanks within the county. This is very welcome as foodbanks in our county are in desperate need of support to continue feeding those who are vulnerable in our communities.
Unfortunately only a very small portion of this has reached the Amman Valley where we now have 3 foodbanks within a 4 mile radius (one of which is in NPT but serves the Amman Valley). Some areas in our county receive £2,500 a month where the Amman Valley only received a one off payment of £500. We welcome funding to these areas but question how Carmarthenshire County Council can justify why the Amman Valley received next to nothing? Deprivation levels are as high or even higher in the Amman Valley than some of the areas that’s receiving funding.
This seems scandalous to you and me, yet some of our local councillors are trying to justify this rather than fight for our community, and the people who due to the current climate rely on our foodbanks to help put food on the table.
Over the next few months this situation is only going to get worse and it’s time for our local elected members to stand up for our community.
Many Thanks
